Service Planned for Plane Crash Victim

A memorial service will take place at 8 p.m. Tuesday for Les Arehart, an Anaheim city employee who died in a plane crash at Fullerton Airport last week.

Arehart, 47, a Big Bear resident, was a management analyst for Anaheim’s Finance Department. He and 40-year-old Mike Benson died Nov. 20, when their single-engine Piper Cherokee crashed into a Fullerton townhouse complex, exploding into flames and killing a woman asleep in her bedroom.

It is unclear who was piloting the plane, which had been trying to land at the airport in thick fog, investigators said. Arehart, who was left a paraplegic in a traffic accident 24 years ago, trained other paraplegics to fly in specially equipped airplanes.

Arehart graduated from Bishop Amat High School in the San Gabriel Valley city of La Puente in 1968.

The service will be at St. Louis of France Catholic Church, 13935 E. Temple Ave., La Puente.
