San Gabriel Valley : TICKET TO RIDE

Share

Illegal parking in Pomona may soon be riskier than ever.

A small army of civil volunteers is ready to issue citations to anyone who parks illegally in spaces reserved for the disabled, in red zones or in other spots where parking is not authorized.

At the behest of city police and the city’s Civilian Volunteer Patrol, the City Council this week unanimously approved a change in the law that allows the volunteers to hand out parking tickets.

The city issued more than 14,000 parking violations last year. But now, said Deputy Police Chief Rick Shaurette, “We expect an increase.”
