Four-Star Films : ‘Lawrence of Arabia’

Share

T.H. Lawrence, enigmatic adventurer, is the focus of director David Lean’s beautifully photographed 1962 epic, shot by Freddie Young and Nicolas Roeg. It’s literate, serious, full of sweep and action, and--though Lean and writers Robert Bolt and uncredited Michael Wilson are too literal to fully penetrate the “Seven Pillars of Wisdom”--it’s still a deluxe film. Starring Peter O’Toole as Lawrence (right), with Omar Sharif (left), Anthony Quinn, Alec Guinness, Jack Hawkins and Arthur Kennedy (as a thinly disguised Lowell Thomas) (Disney Monday at 9 p.m.).
