Southeast : FAX ENFORCEMENT

Share

The Long Beach Police Department has enlisted the help of fax machines along commercial portions of 2nd Street in a new strategy to fight crime in Belmont Shore.

About 75 businesses have joined a fax network designed to circulate tips on suspicious customers, Long Beach Police Lt. Philip King said. Each business has received a list of fax numbers for forwarding crime-related information, which may then be posted at other businesses for employee reference, he said.

King said police will also use the network to notify the businesses of recently reported crimes in the area so that workers may possibly provide tips.

“It’s kind of like a crime alert,” he said.
