Van Nuys : 11 Arrested at 21 Sites in Slot Machine Raid

Los Angeles police on Monday arrested 11 men at 21 sites, including a location in Van Nuys, for allegedly running a string of illegal slot machines, officials said Wednesday.

The sting, in which LAPD officers were assisted by Sheriff’s Department deputies, was aimed at a number of Korean-owned pool halls and bookstores where the men were allegedly letting customers use the machines, LAPD Cmdr. Tim McBride said.

The slot machines were making profits of more than $1,500 a week for the shop owners, McBride said.

Police arrested Tae Wook Won and Hwa Kyung Sung, both of Van Nuys,in the bust.

McBride said the sting netted 36 slot machines from Hollywood to Van Nuys.

One of the 11 men was also arrested on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine for sale, police said.

The investigation was initiated after complaints from several Korean residents, according to police.
