The Philadelphia Flyers came out flat against the New York Islanders and got flattened.

Goaltender Ron Hextall gave up two goals in the first three minutes Sunday and lost for the first time since Nov. 12 as the Islanders beat the Flyers, 6-2, at the Spectrum.

“Obviously, we weren’t ready to drop the puck,” said Hextall, who was replaced by Garth Snow after the first period. “We just came out and played a terrible hockey game.”

New York had 39 shots in the game, the most against the Flyers this season.

Islander goalie Tommy Soderstrom, a former Flyer, made 32 saves. He was supported by two goals each from Alexander Semak and Andrei Vasiliev as the Islanders won for only the seventh time in 28 games.
