A house destroyed by a suspicious fire Thursday had been damaged only a week ago by another fire, officials said.

When firefighters arrived at the house in the 11800 block of Magnolia Avenue about 2:30 p.m Thursday, it “was fully involved with heavy smoke and fire showing in the attic and living area,” Battalion Chief Nick Booker said. About 40 minutes later, the blaze was contained but the house was ashes.

The fire apparently started in a bedroom, but there was evidence that fires had begun in other places too, Booker said.

After a Dec. 7 fire damaged some of the interior, the house was abandoned, and the owner had been living elsewhere, but his belongings were still there Thursday, Booker said.
