NOT JUST CHRISTMAS: Signs of Christmas are everywhere. But Hannukah? . . . “It’s rare to see the Jewish holidays promoted within Orange County,” says Rabbi Zalman Marcus of the Chabad Jewish Center in Mission Viejo. So his center is hosting a Hannukah Fair Sunday afternoon at the Murray Community and Senior Center on Veterans Way there. . . . It’s open to anyone who’d like to see how the Jewish faith celebrates the holiday. The family-oriented event will feature music, storytelling and kids’ arts and crafts.

EIFFEL AVENUE? Who says county supervisors never give up power? They’ve agreed to turn over the task of holding public hearings on new street names to the county traffic commission. . . . There is seldom controversy--most streets are named by the developer of a new subdivision anyway. . . . Says county traffic engineer Ignacio Ochoa: “If a developer wants to build French chateaus and give the streets French names, so be it.”

GROUNDBREAKER: She’s getting used to firsts. Enriqueta L. Ramos was the first Latina to earn a doctorate at UC Irvine. This week she became the county’s first Latina president of a community college district board. . . . “She feels that people should be leading the way--not standing in the way,” says Pete Maddox, who she replaces as president of the Rancho Santiago Community College trustees. . . . Ramos is an English, Spanish and Chicano studies professor at Cypress College and is known for being active in student causes.

NATURAL LENS: Few can name two professional nature photographers. But many can name one--Ansel Adams. A group of his prints is now on display at the Rancho Santa Margarita Library. . . . The Adams prints were borrowed from UC Riverside for a photography exhibit at the library--running through Feb. 16--which includes a group of antique Kodak cameras. . . . Says organizer Carolyn Gregory: “It is thrilling that these Adams photographs have rarely been seen before.”
