Carlton Haselrig, the suspended New York Jet guard who has been missing since Nov. 27, was arrested on an assault charge in Marietta, Ga., by the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office.

Haselrig, who recently spoke to his wife, Sara, was charged with simple battery and being a fugitive of justice, sheriff’s Lt. Ron Cross said.

“Right now he’s got a bond of $2,250 for the simple battery charge, and the fugitive of justice charge is from Pittsburgh,” Cross said. “Once he posts the bond, then Pittsburgh will extradite him.”

An arrest warrant was issued for Haselrig earlier this month in Pittsburgh after he missed a court appearance on a misdemeanor charge involving a drunken rampage last year.

Since Thanksgiving, Haselrig has been involved in a traffic accident, fined for reckless driving, suspended by the NFL for violating the league’s drug abuse policy, and the missed court appearance in Pittsburgh.

Baltimore football fans greeted Cleveland Browns owner Art Modell as he took questions from callers to a local radio show Tuesday night.

Modell, moving the Browns to Baltimore, told one caller to WBAL: “I pledge to you and to others who are listening that you will have a class-A organization here, a winning team with a winning tradition and an organization that involves itself in the community at all levels. I want to make you a fan for life.”
