GARDEN GROVE — A malfunctioning heating tool used in making circuit boards appeared to be the cause of a fire Wednesday at an electronics manufacturing plant that caused about $200,000 in damage, fire officials said.
More than 40 firefighters arrived at the Basic Electronics business in the 17700 block of Western Avenue about 6:45 p.m. when flames were detected, Garden Grove Fire Capt. Mike Bublitz said.
Units from the Garden Grove Fire Department and Orange County Fire Authority arrived and first knocked down the flames within about 10 minutes.
They then retreated from the flames when they found chemical runoffs coming from the ashes. Two hazardous-materials teams responded to the scene, he said.
