LESS IS MORE? An advisory board is considering a proposal to shut down two of Ventura’s three libraries so that the remaining facility could be open full time (B1). . . . The move would benefit workers as well as patrons, county library Director Dixie D. Adeniran says. “I can tell you that it has been very hard for the staff in Ventura, traveling back and forth between Foster and Wright libraries, opening them every other day,” she says. “And it’s been hard on the people too. I think a lot of people have just given up.”

TICKET TO READ: In the shorter term, patrons can help county libraries by visiting the Holiday Wish Book Trees set up at 12 of the system’s 16 facilities. The trees, sporting ornaments with the names of tomes needed by the facility, will be up for several weeks for those still in the holiday spirit. . . . Camarillo Librarian Sandi Kaplan said her library has gotten 15 of the 60 books it wants. . . . And if you’ve ended up with a book that’s not on their list, donate it anyway. “If we don’t need it, we can give it to Friends of the Library for their book sale,” she says.

DOUBLE TROUBLE: Wendell, left, and Tim Nunnery arrived on Moorpark College’s basketball team after a stint at Oxnard College, and they’re just what the Raiders needed: They provide stability, leadership--and points (C8). . . . The cousins, who have evolved into a package deal, are different off court but similar on: One or the other has led the team in scoring in nearly every game.

BOSNIA-BOUND: The first wave of Navy Seabees will join American troops in Bosnia today. Armed with an arsenal of hammers, saws and other tools, the construction battalion will begin to build four tent cities for the peacekeepers. . . . So far, Seabees headed for the holidays in Bosnia are from Gulfport, Miss., not Port Hueneme, says Rear Adm. David Nash, affectionately known as “King Bee.” But that’s for now, he said. “The world could change.”
