MISSION VIEJO : Commission Rejects Revised Housing Plan
- Share via
A housing project that would have swallowed up much of the parking for the Nadadores swim complex has been rejected by the Planning Commission.
The panel had criticized the 47-home project on Casta del Sol last month, saying the density proposed was too high. The builder, Polygon Communities, then requested a 30-day delay to come up with a different design.
The new proposal, too, was turned down this week. It did not specify the number of homes to be built but sought preliminary approval so that site grading could begin. Polygon officials said they will appeal the commission’s decision to the City Council.
The project also has drawn criticism from tenants of a neighboring city recreation center, which is leased by the Nadadores swim club and the YMCA. About 80 parking spaces would be lost to the project, they say.
Though the city’s legal staff has said the parking situation is a separate issue from the building application, commissioners noted that a parking shortage would mean crowded streets in surrounding neighborhoods.
