Georgia Reacts Quickly to Mason Snub, Names Donnan as Its Coach
Spurned by Kansas Coach Glen Mason, Georgia on Monday hired Jim Donnan of Marshall to become its new football coach.
Donnan had been a top contender to replace the fired Ray Goff before Georgia Athletic Director Vince Dooley hired Mason last week.
Georgia spokesman Claude Felton said a news conference would be held today to announce Donnan’s appointment.
Donnan has led Marshall to 64 victories and one Division I-AA national championship (1992) over the past six years. He was named 1992 Division I-AA coach of the year and his team was runner-up to Montana in the national championship game last week.
