As a rule, Notre Dame does not take injured players to the site of a bowl game until 48 hours before the kickoff. But quarterback Ron Powlus, whose season ended when he broke his left arm against Navy in the next-to-last regular-season game, is an exception. He arrived in Miami with the rest of the Irish on Christmas because Coach Lou Holtz wanted him to work with the new starter, Tom Krug, before Monday’s game against Florida State.
“There’s a lot more normalcy with Ronnie around,” Krug said.
