Weekend TV : There’s ‘Something Else’ to Laugh About on USA

According to USA, “Saturday Night Is Something Else.” The cable channel is laughing in the new year tonight with a two-hour block of comedies. First up at 9 p.m. is the fourth-season opener of the John Landis-produced “Weird Science,” based on the 1985 movie about a computer-generated beauty and the two teenagers who created her. This year, such TV retro names as Eddie Mekka, Ted Lange and Abe Vigoda will be guests.

Following at 9:30 p.m. is the new Landis comedy “Campus Cops.” Ben Bode and Ryan Hurst star in the slapstick farce about two underachievers who become members of a security team that guards a prestigious university.

Flying in for its third season at 10 is “Duckman,” the outrageous animated series about a cynical, wisecracking duck detective voiced by Jason Alexander.

Rounding out the evening at 10:30 is “Weekly World News,” a new tabloid comedy series from former NBC head Brandon Tartikoff. Veteran broadcaster Edwin Newman hosts the wacky series that features five human interest stories, plus a “Personality on Parade” feature interview.
