Dunivant Seeks Burbank Coaching Job

Bob Dunivant, former Burroughs High football coach and Burbank school board member, has applied for the vacant Burbank High football job.

Burbank Athletic Director Christine Krohn confirmed only that 11 people have applied for the job, and that she expects a 12th before the school stops accepting applications Friday. Krohn added that she will hire someone before the start of the spring semester, Jan. 28.

Dunivant was the head coach at Burroughs for six of the school’s eight Foothill League championships, and served as offensive coordinator under George Rosales for the other two.

The Indians played in the Southern Section championship game under Dunivant in 1987. He was the offensive coordinator under Rosales in the Indians’ other title game appearance in 1981.

Dunivant, 60, served three terms as Burroughs’ head coach, 1961-74, 1977-79, and 1985-87.

Dunivant also served as a co-head coach with Marty Garrison in 1992 when Butch McElwee resigned after the Indians’ second game.

The Northridge Girls Softball League will hold registration today for girls ages 8 to 18.

Track and Field

Coaches Jack Farrell of Thousand Oaks High and Ken Reeves of Nordhoff will be inducted into the Los Angeles Invitational Coaches Hall of Fame at the Sports Arena meet on Feb. 24.

Under Farrell, the Thousand Oaks boys’ cross-country teams have won six major-division Southern Section titles since 1980 and won consecutive state Division I titles in 1993 and ’94. The Lancer girls won the 1994 Southern Section Division I championship.

The Nordhoff boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams have won eight Southern Section and five state titles at the Division III and IV levels since 1990 under Reeves.
