Loyola Starts Strong, Can’t Hold On, 61-57
A season-high 27 points by Gerald Walker led San Francisco to a 61-57 West Coast Conference victory over Loyola Marymount on Thursday night.
The Lions, 9-4 overall and 0-1 in the WCC, took a 17-4 lead as San Francisco (8-6, 1-1) did not score a field goal the first 10 minutes of the game.
But the Dons, led by Walker’s 12 first-half points, came back to take a 25-23 halftime lead.
San Francisco’s lead reached 10 points three times before Loyola Marymount, led by Michael O’Quinn’s team-high 19 points, fought back to within three points in the last minute. However, O’Quinn missed a three-point attempt to tie the score with 11 seconds remaining.
Ime Oduok and Kenny Hotopp had 11 points each for the Lions. Oduok had a game-high 12 rebounds.
John Duggan scored 13 points for San Francisco and had nine rebounds.
