Receiver Brignac Commits to Washington

Cleveland High receiver Junior Brignac has committed to play football at Washington, Cavalier Coach Joe Santellano said.

Brignac, 6 feet 3, 180 pounds, caught 18 passes for 206 yards last fall.

A shortstop who batted .386 in ‘95, Brignac also will play baseball at Washington. Brignac also had visited California.

Jerome Elliot, a 6-5, 265-pound defensive end at Valley College, has committed to play at Minnesota.

Basketball

The City Section Rules Committee denied appeals by Cleveland High guard Tony Hoggatts and Chatsworth forward T.J. McCoy. The committee upheld rulings that Hoggatts had used up his eight semesters of eligibility and McCoy had falsified results of a physical exam.

Tennis

Twins Mike and Bob Bryan of Camarillo upset the world’s No. 1-ranked junior doubles team at the Australian International Junior Hard Court tournament in Melbourne. The Bryans beat James Trotman and James Lee of England, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, in the semifinals for their second victory over Trotman and Lee.
