Tennessee Beats the No. 1 Team
Abby Conklin scored all 12 of her points in the final 10 minutes to lead No. 4 Tennessee to a 77-72 victory over previously unbeaten and top-ranked Louisiana Tech on Monday at Knoxville, Tenn.
The victory gave the Lady Vols (16-3) a sweep of the nation’s top two teams in a span of four days. Tennessee beat then-No. 2 Vanderbilt on Friday night.
The loss ended a 16-game winning streak for Louisiana Tech (16-1). The Lady Techsters had been No. 1 since assuming the top spot with a victory on this same floor over defending national champion Connecticut in November.
Freshman star Chamique Holdsclaw led Tennessee with 23 points and 13 rebounds.
