California 150 Reopening Delayed

Share

Last weekend’s rains have pushed back the reopening of California 150 between Ojai and Carpinteria from today to late Friday afternoon, according to the California Department of Transportation.

A temporary gravel road will provide one lane of traffic in each direction on the one-eighth-mile section of the road’s western portion near Casitas Creek.

“The most recent storm delayed [the reopening] and what it does is wash out what [gravel] you’ve compressed,” Caltrans spokesman Vincent Moreno said.

A permanent asphalt roadway is expected to be in place in about three weeks.

Traffic traveling on the eastern portion of the project--west of Lake Casitas and east of Madranio Canyon--will still encounter a traffic signal, Moreno said.

The route is expected to fully reopen in February, depending on the weather.

California 150, which links the Ojai Valley and Santa Barbara County, closed after landslides caused by last year’s heavy rains damaged the roadway.
