A gunman shot a 60-year-old armored truck guard to death in Bellflower Monday afternoon before taking a bag of money and fleeing with an accomplice, sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputy Benita Nichol said two Loomis security guards arrived at Furr’s Family Dining at 10460 Rosecrans Ave. shortly before 1:30 p.m.

She said one guard went inside to pick up money while the other waited in the truck. As the 60-year-old guard left the cafeteria, he was confronted by a man with a gun, Nichol said.

“The suspect shot the victim one time in the upper body, took an unspecified amount of money held by the guard and fled,” Nichol said.

The killer, believed to be about 30, ran to a waiting car driven by a man also believed to be about 30, she said. The pair headed east on Rosecrans Avenue, detectives said.

The slain guard was identified as Floyd Tillett, a resident of Rialto.
