Valleywide : City OKs Measure to Cite Cars on Lawns
The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday approved a proposal to give city inspectors more power to combat the problem of cars parked illegally in front yards.
The newly minted ordinance allows city inspectors to ticket the owners of the vehicles. In the past, inspectors from the city departments of transportation and building and safety could only ticket the homeowners involved in the offenses. People who park their cars in front yards could receive a $30 ticket for the first offense, $55 for the second violation and $105 for the third.
The law, expected to become effective in about six weeks, was introduced by City Councilman Nate Holden, who said parked cars on front lawns degrade the appearance of neighborhoods and lead to their deterioration.
