Two teenagers who were involved in a beach-side fight remained hospitalized with stab wounds Saturday, police said.

Investigators are still trying to determine what led to the double stabbing shortly after midnight, said Huntington Beach Police Department Lt. Jon Arnold.

Both youths, whose names are not being released because of their ages, are expected to recover from their injuries.

Authorities believe a large group of teenagers was hanging out on the beach near the pier when a fight broke out between the two boys, Arnold said.

Paramedics responding to the scene found the less seriously injured teen in the 100 block of Main Street.

While treating him for injuries near his right eye, ambulance attendants were told that a second teenager lying on the beach had suffered more than 10 stab wounds to the upper body and head.

The teenager that suffered the numerous stab wounds was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange while the other teen was taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Anaheim.
