Sacramento King guards Mitch Richmond and Tyus Edney may be playing on All-Star Weekend, but they were outplayed Monday night by the guards of the Miami Heat.

Rex Chapman scored 24 points and Bimbo Coles 21 to lead the Heat past the Kings, 103-92, at Miami.

Richmond, who was selected as a reserve for the West All-Stars, and Edney, who will play in the rookie game, combined to go 10 for 34 from the floor.

Miami’s effective perimeter game loosened up the inside for Alonzo Mourning, who had 25 points and 11 rebounds despite being limited to 33 minutes because of foul trouble.

Utah 92, Vancouver 83--Karl Malone muscled his way inside for most of his 31 points at Vancouver in a game that moved the Jazz into first place in the Midwest Division, half a game ahead of the idle San Antonio Spurs.

The Grizzlies, who lost their fifth in a row, were led by reserve Byron Scott’s 19 points.

Portland 90, Toronto 87--James Robinson’s three-pointer from the top of the key with one-tenth of a second remaining at Toronto caused the Raptors to lose for the third time this season on a shot taken with less than one second remaining in a game.

Rod Strickland, who fed Robinson for the game-winner, finished with 28 points and teammate Cliff Robinson added 25 for Portland.

New York 97, Detroit 91--The Knicks blew all but one point of a 16-point second-half lead, but held on at New York, the key shot being Patrick Ewing’s fadeaway jumper with 1:02 remaining. Ewing finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds.

Minnesota 104, Dallas 92--Tom Gugliotta had 22 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists and a key rebound of his own missed free throw at Minneapolis and teammate Christian Laettner scored 23 points, but 19-year-old rookie Kevin Garnett also contributed some impressive numbers with seven rebounds, seven assists and seven blocked shots.
