Teenager Injured in Blaze at Motel
A fire at a residential motel sent a tenant to the hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation and caused $5,000 in damage, authorities and motel staff said.
Employees of the 52-unit Ivanhoe Motel, in the 400 block of West Katella Avenue, battled the 2:30 p.m. blaze with a few fire extinguishers and a garden hose before firefighters arrived.
A 16-year-old tenant, who had prior lung problems and helped rush fire extinguishers to the second-floor unit, was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, said Ron Dean, 29, who lives at the motel and provides security there.
