Harvard Two Much for Lions

Cathedral City High was the latest team to see double while facing Harvard-Westlake as twins Jason and Jarron Collins posted nearly identical numbers for the Wolverines in their 88-55 Division III-A quarterfinal victory at College of the Desert.

Jarron Collins had 19 points, 15 rebounds, six assists and six steals, and Jason Collins had 19 points, 15 rebounds, six assists and six blocked shots.

Ryan Smiley added 11 points for Harvard-Westlake (24-2) and Alex Gelbard scored 10 points.

The Wolverines had 50 rebounds and sank 39 of 65 shots.

Rasheed Sharp had 17 points for the Lions (16-13) and Caleb Gervin added 16.

Peninsula 41, Highland 40--Mike Paul’s last-second jump shot from the baseline was long and the Bulldogs fell in a Division I-AA second-round game at Highland.

Highland (17-10) was hurt by two critical turnovers in the final 90 seconds and Peninsula held the lead by going to a four-corner offense.

John Burrell scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Nick Howell blocked five shots for Highland.

Esperanza 74, Hoover 62--Matt Munson scored 21 points for the Aztecs (25-3) in a Division I--AA second-round game at Hoover.

Arbi Baghdasarian had 17 points and Andy Russell scored nine points and 10 rebounds for the Tornadoes (16-10).

Capistrano Valley 70, Buena 68--Randy Shepard hit a 10-foot jumper as time expired to give the Cougars (17-12) the victory in a second-round Division I-A game at Buena.

Ceneka Shaw had 16 points and Ryan Howery added 14 for Buena (16-10), which rallied from a six-point deficit with two minutes left.

Moorpark 71, Compton Centennial 67--Keith Donahue had 18 points and his brother, Brian Donahue, scored 15 points as the Musketeers edged the Apaches (22-7) in overtime in a Division III-AA second-round game at Simi Valley High.

St. Bernard 65, Oak Park 42--Randy Gastwirt scored 14 points for the Eagles (17-8) in a Division IV-AA quarterfinal game at El Segundo High.

Crossroads 79, Providence 40--Jose Tano scored 13 points and Brian Fay added 12 for Providence (16-9) in a Division IV-A quarterfinal game.

Baron Davis and Kejuan Woods each scored 20 points for Crossroads (23-8).

Montclair Prep 83, South Bay Lutheran 54--The Mounties (23-3) had 30 assists on their way to a Division V-AA second-round victory at home.

Scott Stark had 19 points and eight assists, while Anwawn Jones scored 19 points and grabbed 17 rebounds.

Campbell Hall 73, Ambassador Christian 51--Demetrius Ingram, who had four three-pointers, scored 22 points for the Vikings (16-11) in a Division V-AA second-round game at Ambassador Christian.

El Toro 49, Hart 46--Cory Johnson scored 18 points and Amir Parvinchiha added 11 but the Indians dropped the Division I-A second-round game at El Toro.
