City Meetings to Help Explain Annexation

Share

To ensure a smooth transition as the city absorbs 5,000 residents of newly annexed northern Laguna Hills, a series of informational meetings will explain local services and how to use resources at City Hall.

City Council members this week approved that plan and also said they will focus the next city newsletter on the annexation, which takes effect July 1. A public hearing on annexation-related amendments to the city budget will be June 11.

“Our primary objective will be education,” Councilwoman Melody Carruth said. “We will explain law enforcement services and many others.”

Northern Laguna Hills residents will pay no new taxes when they become part of Laguna Hills. And one benefit of the annexation will be the elimination of a county assessment for landscape maintenance that costs some residents as much as $200 annually.

The council also approved a set of conditions for transferring responsibility for the 1.2-square-mile area from the county to the city.
