How excited was Western Carolina Coach Phil Hopkins about the Catamounts’ 69-60 Southern Conference, title-clinching victory over Davidson on Sunday?

Excited enough to propose marriage to his girlfriend, Bronda Dedmon, after receiving the trophy. Dedmon nodded yes from among a crowd of Western Carolina fans.

The game was nowhere near that easy for Hopkins.

The Catamounts squandered a 17-point second-half lead but rallied to end a 19-game unbeaten streak by Davidson (25-4) and earn Western Carolina its first title in school history.
