Sheriff’s Department homicide detectives continued to search Monday for a gunman who killed a motorist during an argument on the Long Beach Freeway in Monterey Park.
Several people called the homicide bureau with possible leads on the Sunday shooting, a department spokeswoman said.
At 11 a.m. Sunday, Juan Grimaldo, 33, of Bell Gardens was northbound on the freeway north of Cesar Chavez Avenue when he and another motorist got into an argument, authorities said.
The gunman’s car sped along the driver’s side of Grimaldo’s white Nissan Pulsar. When Grimaldo tried to get off the freeway, the other driver fired a handgun twice and struck Grimaldo at least once.
The gunman sped away in a black 1980s Mitsubishi two-door sedan. He was described as in his 30s, thin, with short dark hair shaved on the sides.
Anyone who saw the shooting is asked to call the sheriff’s homicide bureau at (213) 890-5500
