Oxnard Freshman Towers Over Ventura

Oxnard College freshman right-hander Josh Towers threw a two-hit shutout, leading the Condors to a 4-0 victory over Ventura in a Western State Conference North Division game Tuesday at Oxnard.

Towers struck out six in pitching his second consecutive shutout. He allowed no walks and had a no-hitter until Monte Moritz’s one-out single in the seventh.

Towers has allowed four hits in his two shutouts.

Jake Spahr hit a two-run home run, his fifth of the season, for Oxnard (9-5, 2-1).

Chris Carr had the only other hit for Ventura.

Mission 9, Glendale 2--Amador Solis had three doubles and drove in two runs for the Free Spirit (8-7, 1-2) in a WSC South Division game at Mission.

Hiram Damwijk had five strikeouts in four shutout innings to earn a save in relief of Romero Orozco (2-2).

Art Diaz had three hits and three RBIs for Mission.

Bakersfield 9, Valley 4--Javier Dorado had three hits and scored three runs for the visiting Monarchs (5-10, 2-1), who had 11 hits but stranded 10 runners in the WSC South Division game.

John Shellabarger had two hits for Valley, including a run-scoring double.

Steve Zorn also singled, doubled, and drove in a run, while Ron Pirayoff had two hits and scored once for the Monarchs.

Chapman 3, Cal Lutheran 1--Josh Fallon’s two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning off reliever Dave Jaglowski (0-2) snapped a 1-1 tie and propelled the Tigers (8-5) past the Kingsmen (12-4-1) in a nonconference game at Chapman.

Cal Lutheran managed just four hits off Justin Minor, who pitched eight innings. Cale Sheperd pitched the ninth to pick up the save.

The Kingsmen had tied the score, 1-1, in the fifth when Matt Moore doubled, moved to third on a single by Adam Rauch and scored on a bunt by Tom McGee.
