Camunas Pitches No-Hitter for Fountain Valley Softball
Keary Camunas pitched a no-hitter, giving up only a two-out walk in the sixth, to help Fountain Valley defeat Laguna Hills, 1-0, in nonleague softball Wednesday at Fountain Valley.
Rocky Staniorski’s single scored Jackie Killian, who had tripled, in the first inning for the Barons (1-0).
In other nonleague softball:
Buena Park 6, Santa Ana 1--Alicia Davison gave up four hits, no earned runs and struck out eight for visiting Buena Park (2-1).
Century 4, Los Amigos 3--Debbie Arostigue had an RBI single to highlight a three-run seventh for visiting Century (4-0).
Costa Mesa 13, Edison 10--Krissy Genet had four hits, three runs scored and two RBIs for visiting Costa Mesa (3-0).
Foothill 8, West Covina South Hills 0--Lindsey Fossatti (2-0) pitched a no-hitter, striking out seven and walking one and Marie Gieron had a home run for Foothill (3-0).
San Clemente 7, Corona del Mar 0--Stephanie Swenson and Brittany Carlson combined on a no-hitter, striking out 13, and Kim Lower had four hits, four runs scored and two RBIs for the visiting Tritons (1-1).
In the first round of the Corona softball tournament:
Canyon 4, Norco 3--Meghan Goldstein and Veronica Lopez each had two hits for Canyon (3-0).
In the Fullerton tournament:
Valencia 2, Garden Grove 0--Annie Dedic had two hits, including a two-run single in the fifth, for Valencia (3-2) in the seventh-place game.
Rosary 7, Cerritos 5--Julie Luna’s two-run homer capped a five-run seventh inning for Rosary (4-1).
In nonleague golf:
Santa Margarita 198, Mission Viejo 225--Junior Kelly Craig shot par 36 to lead Santa Margarita (4-0) at Mission Viejo Country Club.
University 205, Fountain Valley 213--Ron Won shot a two-over-par 38 for University at Rancho San Joaquin.
Villa Park 196, Tustin 237--Ryan Michel shot par 36 on the Green River Orange course for Villa Park (1-0).
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
Capistrano Valley 12, Huntington Beach 6--Kenny Harrison and Mark Nugent swept, 6-3, 7-5, 6-2, for the Capistrano Valley doubles, which did not drop a set.
Garden Grove 10, Mission Viejo 8--Nam Tran and Bryan Tran improved to 12-0 on the season by sweeping, 6-1, 6-0, 6-3, for Garden Grove’s doubles teams, which won eight of nine sets.
Pacifica 16, Fairmont 2--Steve Cole won his singles sets, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, and doubles teammates Manoj Kesarwani and Eric Lloyd won, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, for visiting Pacifica (1-0).
Irvine 15, Marina 3--Tim Chan swept, 6-2, 6-0, 6-1, and Jason Williams swept, 6-1, 6-3, 6-1, for Irvine’s singles, which did not lose a set.
In nonleague boys’ volleyball:
Aliso Niguel 3, Fountain Valley 1--Brian Chandler had 18 kills for host Aliso Niguel (3-0), which won, 11-15, 16-14, 15-11, 15-9.
Huntington Beach 3, Dana Hills 0--Dave McKienzie and Evan Hook had eight kills each for Huntington Beach (1-0), which won, 15-0, 15-8, 15-7.
