Police arrested a heavily armed Oxnard man on suspicion of beating his wife at the couple’s Iris Street home, authorities said Thursday.
Jerry Rhoden, 46, was booked into Ventura County Jail on Wednesday night after his 8:15 p.m. arrest, police said.
Oxnard officers responded to a call at the residence and interviewed Lucy Rhoden, who was visibly bruised, police said. Authorities then confronted her husband, who, police said, was initially uncooperative and carrying a loaded shotgun, wearing a bullet-proof vest and a holstered 9-millimeter handgun.
Rhoden was ordered to surrender his weapons and was taken into custody without incident.
