Six Teams To Watch : Santa Margarita
Coach: Eddie Rapp (third year).
1995: 10-10, 4-6 in the Sea View League; lost to San Clemente in the second round of the Southern Section Division I tournament.
Key returners: Trey Nelson, 6-6, outside hitter, Sr.; Russell Swarts, 6-1, setter, Sr.; Sean Redfern, 6-5, middle blocker, Sr.; Nick Mauro, 6-3, middle blocker, Jr.; Tim Gerlach, 6-3, middle blocker, Jr.; Justin DeBlasio, 6-0, outside hitter, Jr.
Key newcomers: None.
Outlook: Santa Margarita is expected to be good simply because of experience--it returns six starters from last season. The Eagles lost setter Ryan Wesierski, now freshman team coach, to graduation but gained middle blocker Mauro, who started before he was injured at the end of last season. Swarts, who started at outside hitter last year, will move to setter. Gerlach, who replaced Mauro after he was injured last year, also will start at middle blocker or outside hitter. Redfern will start at middle blocker and DeBlasio will start at outside hitter. This group is in its third season together and has improved every year.
