FRIDAY: SPRING CONCERT

Moorpark High School’s acclaimed concert band and wind ensemble, under the direction of Bob Hackett, will perform Friday night in the first of a two-part spring concert series. The program will include pieces by Hugo Montenegro, Gustav Holst, Richard Wagner, Norman Dello Joio and Charles Carter. In the second concert of the series, Moorpark High’s two jazz bands--along with Lane 29, a big-band orchestra made up of top high school and college musicians from throughout the county--will perform March 21. Both concerts will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 for the two-concert package, $3 for a single concert. Moorpark High School is at 4500 Tierra Rejada Road. Information: 378-6305.

IRISH MUSIC

Get a jump on St. Patrick’s Day festivities Friday night at the Camarillo Cafe. The McFadyen family will provide an eclectic evening of traditional Irish music beginning at 8 p.m.

Husband John plays guitar while wife Eve plucks the bass and son Ian plays banjo--and everyone sings in the McFadyen family. Opening will be Jane Chacon, who plays the harp, Celtic harp and hammer dulcimer. Chacon sings traditional English and Irish folk ballads.

SUNDAY: BIG-BAND MUSIC

We rarely find big bands playing in clubs these days, for obvious reasons: limited space and the stress of economics. But there are enough lovers of the tradition, among musicians and listeners, to keep the music alive. So it will be a special event when drummer Chuck Flores brings his 16-piece big band to the cozy quarters of 66 California for a St. Patrick’s Day show from 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday. Flores, who has played with Carmen McRae and is a veteran of the big bands of Woody Herman and Stan Kenton, will lead the musical charge. Tickets are $10.
