A 50-year member of Ventura’s Masonic Lodge, he was one of the founders of “Brownie’s Crew,” a group of members that held barbecues beginning in the 1950s and donated the proceeds to the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children in Los Angeles.

MacCuish remained active at lodge barbecues until recent years, said Warren Brown, son of the late R.W. “Brownie” Brown.

“He really helped a lot,” Brown said. “Back in the 1970s we served 30,000 meals a year.”

MacCuish was also an experienced woodcarver.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Elfleda; son, Neil MacCuish of Placentia; daughter and son-in-law, Kaye and Floyd Fulton of Paradise; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura with Rev. Dana Eaton officiating.
