Sheriff’s deputies are still looking for a second suspect in Wednesday’s gang-related shooting in El Rio.

Thursday night, deputies and Oxnard police officers arrested a 17-year-old alleged gang member outside a family member’s home on the 400 block of North G Street in Oxnard. The youth, whose name was not released, was booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of attempted murder, authorities said.

Police believe the teen was the shooter in the El Rio incident, during which Daniel Gonzales, 17, was shot in the wrist, and Edward Medina, 15, was shot in the leg and back as they walked home in the early evening on Balboa Street. A shotgun and a 9-millimeter pistol were used in the incident.

Gonzales remains in danger of losing the function of his right hand, authorities said.

Adrian Reyes, 20, and a 14-year-old friend, were ambushed and injured by gang members the night before in La Colonia. Detectives said they believe the two incidents to be related.
