‘Unruly Crowd’ at Park Scuffles With Irvine Police; Several Arrests Made

IRVINE — About half a dozen people were arrested Friday night and several of them were treated by paramedics for pepper spray effects after police scuffled with an “unruly crowd” gathered at a local amusement park, police said.
Police were called just before 10 p.m. to Palace Park in the 3400 block of Michelson Drive by park managers who complained about a group of about 20 rowdy visitors who were wearing gang clothing, a violation of the park dress code, police Sgt. Rick Handfield said.
The officers were greeted with “aggression,” Handfield said, and an officer “in distress, in some kind of physical fight or struggle” soon called for backup units.
About a dozen officers responded and arrests were made on suspicion of disturbing the peace, trespassing and resisting arrest, police said.
