Colleges / Campus scene : Blanc to Head OCC Career Programs
George L. Blanc, an administrator at Orange Coast College for 22 years, has been appointed administrative dean of junior college’s career and contract education programs.
Career education trains students in a variety of fields including accounting, culinary arts and fashion merchandising. Contract education offers courses that aim to fit the needs of local employers.
Blanc, 59, has been OCC’s dean of community education for 15 years and has built it into the largest of its type in California. Last year, nearly 72,000 took part in its lectures, seminars, workshops, classes and performing arts.
Blanc said he is excited about the new position.
“The future of America’s work force depends on community colleges more than any other single entity,” Blanc said. “My three areas of responsibility deal directly with supporting that work force.”
