Solano completed an impressive run in the Nike Lady Hornet softball Invitational by beating host Fullerton, 3-1, Monday in the championship game.

Fullerton had two players caught and tagged between third and home. Solano, which went 5-0 in winning the tournament, is 19-10.

The Hornets (27-8) tried to mount a comeback in the seventh when Kristy Osborne and Jennifer Johnson singled with one out. They moved to second and third on a throwing error.

But Osborne was caught off third when a squeeze bunt failed and was eventually tagged for the second out. Michelle Rodriguez singled to move Johnson to third but Kelly Wilkerson flied to center to end the game.

The Hornets had runners on second and third in the fifth and pinch-hitter Becky Joosten had an infield single to drive in one run.

Rodriguez, who was on second, rounded third but Solano second baseman Raja Woods, who had knocked down the ball, picked it up quickly and threw home. Rodriguez was tagged out after the rundown.

Fullerton’s Osborne (13-1) pitched a seven-hitter and Cara Hatt had a run-scoring single in a 2-1 victory over Palomar in one semifinal game.

Fullerton left fielder Kristie Java also threw a runner out at the plate in the third inning.
