Durante Leaves Water District After 35 Years
Mario Durante, a trustee of Mesa Consolidated Water District since it was founded in 1960, has resigned.
At Thursday’s board meeting, which Durante did not attend, board President Trudy Ohlig read this brief statement from Durante: “After 35 years of service to District 1 and the people of Costa Mesa, I have at this time decided to resign effective immediately.”
No reason was given for Durante’s resignation, though he has been in ill health in recent months.
Durante, 75, was a veteran water board member, having joined the board of the Newport Mesa County Water District in 1954. He continued to serve when Mesa Consolidated was formed in 1960 by the union of four local water districts, including Newport Mesa County.
Durante served three terms as Mesa Consolidated’s president during the 1960s and 1970s.
The board will meet Thursday to decide how to choose a successor for Durante. Information: (714) 631-1205.
