Westlake Village : District Draws Up Plans for New School

Share

The Las Virgenes Unified School District has drawn up tentative plans for a new elementary school in Westlake Village to accommodate an influx of students from proposed housing developments north of the Ventura Freeway.

Irvine-based Western Pacific Housing has proposed building 180 condominiums on a 23-acre site that is part of the city’s Westlake North Specific Plan. Another developer, Westwood-based Kaufman & Broad Home Corp., has proposed a 160-unit, single-family development in the same area.

The specific plan, which was originally approved in 1989, is undergoing revision. The plan covers an 130-acre plot bordered by Lindero Canyon Road, Thousand Oaks Boulevard, the city of Agoura Hills and the Ventura Freeway.

The revised plan would allow for as many as 450 housing units, city officials say. The proposal calls for building the school and a park on a 10-acre parcel.

In exchange for the school district’s support for the development, builders would donate the land for the school and provide water, gas, electric, telephone and cable television hookup, among other things, according to the school district.

Any new school construction in the specific plan area would hinge on approval by the Westlake Village City Council, officials said. The council is expected to vote on the matter this summer.
