City Clerk Resigns for Personal Reasons

City Clerk Donna Teeter, hired in January to succeed Donna Velin, resigned this week, citing personal reasons for her departure.

In a brief letter, Teeter said she has nothing but respect for the council but must resign immediately.

“It’s a personal situation with her, and we certainly understand that,” Councilwoman Alice Jempsa said Wednesday.

A new clerk will be appointed in a week or two from list of eligible candidates compiled before Teeter was hired, Assistant City Manager Gerard Goedhart said.

The City Council also has yet to fill the positions of city manager and city development director, which were vacated when former City Manager Robert Dunek was hired by Lake Forest in December and former Community Development Director Elizabeth Binsack was hired by Tustin in January.

Jempsa said she is optimistic that the council will find suitable replacements for all three. “We’ve never had a problem with getting good candidates,” she said. “Los Alamitos has a good reputation as a place to work.”
