Construction could begin this month on a commuter rail station serving the Anaheim Canyon Business Center. Officials of the Southern California Regional Rail Authority said they expect to award a $635,000 building contract for the station Friday.

When it opens in midsummer, the station in the northeast part of the city will be one of seven stops on the Metrolink commuter rail corridor that starts in San Bernardino and continues through Riverside, Tustin and Irvine.

The Anaheim Canyon stop will be between the Riverside Freeway and La Palma Avenue, west of Tustin Avenue.

“It’s going to be a tremendous benefit to that whole area,” said Richard J. Bruckner, Anaheim’s redevelopment and economic development manager. “There are literally thousands of businesses out there, and a great number of their employees live in the Inland Empire.”

In a related move, the city is forming a transportation management association in the Anaheim Canyon Business Center to encourage car and van pools. Information: (714) 254-4300.
