BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : Hollandsworth Goes to Bench

Dodger left fielder Todd Hollandsworth, expected to resume his spot in the starting lineup, instead found himself benched in favor of Milt Thompson.

Hollandsworth, billed as the Dodgers’ latest rookie-of-the-year candidate, is batting .040 (1 for 25) since his three-run double in the Dodgers’ opening-day victory over the Houston Astros. Manager Tom Lasorda told Hollandsworth he would return to the lineup Tuesday when the San Francisco Giants start right-hander Osvaldo Fernandez.

Left-handed reliever Scott Radinsky, who a year ago still was trying to regain his strength after sitting out the 1994 season because of Hodgkin’s disease, now is convinced that he’s finally back and healthier than ever.

“I know I didn’t feel this good a year ago,” said Radinsky, who came off the Dodgers’ disabled list Friday. “I gave it all I had last year, but I just didn’t have enough. Really, the only doubt I had was when [doctors] told me that it would take 12 months to come back. I didn’t believe them. I didn’t want to believe them. I feel great now.”
