Agoura Hills : Rainbow Crest Drive to Get Speed Bumps

Share

Speed bumps will soon be installed along Rainbow Crest Drive in Agoura Hills by the request of neighborhood residents, who fear that uncontrolled speeding will bring tragedy.

The City Council approved the project last year but delayed installation due to the city’s strained fiscal situation.

The council decided to proceed, officials said, because the project was deemed relatively inexpensive at an estimated cost of $17,000.

The project will go out to bid by the end of this month, City Engineer Elroy Kiepke said. The bumps, which will be installed from Reyes Adobe Road to Forest Cove Lane, should be in place before summer, he said.

City and police officials caution that speed bumps are not a substitute for safe driving.

Kiepke pointed out that the bumps can actually create hazards if, for instance, children use them as ramps for bicycle stunts.

Lt. Mike Ford of the Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station said his department will beef up enforcement in the area for the next month or so.

Ford said speed bumps can help, “but the best solution is to get people to cooperate with the posted speed limit,” which is 25 mph.
