Ashley’s Loss Is Fan’s Gain
Dodger left fielder Billy Ashley lost his grip on his bat during a fifth inning at-bat against Florida reliever Matt Mantei and his bat flew into the stands.
A fan seated behind the Dodger dugout caught it and refused to give it to an usher. However, he parted with it when the usher brought him another bat.
“I didn’t ask for it back,” Ashley said. “As far as I’m concerned, anything that goes in the stands has a chance of hurting somebody and they can have it.”
Ashley lost another bat in the seventh inning when he shattered it on a fly ball to right.
