What was almost the biggest come-from-behind victory in Kansas City Royals’ history became one of the club’s most bitter losses.

The Chicago White Sox blew a 10-0 lead after two innings and escaped with an 11-10 victory Monday night at Kansas City when Ozzie Guillen doubled home the go-ahead run in the ninth.

The bizarre slugfest featured two homers, two triples and three doubles in the first two innings.

“I don’t think you’ll find many guys in baseball who have ever come back like this,” said Mike Magnante, who gave up Guillen’s game-winning hit. “We had it. We had it. I let it slip up.”

Powered by home runs from Frank Thomas and Chris Snopek, the White Sox scored five runs in the first and second innings before the Royals rallied. Kansas City scored six runs in the second inning and eventually tied the score, 10-10, with two runs in the eighth.

Oakland 8, Texas 3--The A’s scored five runs with two outs in the seventh inning, handing the Rangers their first home loss this season.

The A’s broke open a 3-3 game as seven consecutive batters reached base, five on hits and two via walks. Pedro Munoz ignited the rally with a run-scoring double off the top of the left-center field wall.

Toronto 8, Detroit 2--Juan Guzman pitched a six-hitter and Charlie O’Brien matched a career high with four RBIs at Toronto.

Guzman, who went 4-14 during an injury-plagued 1995 season, has given up five runs in three starts this season.

Cleveland 8, Boston 0--Carlos Baerga drove in three runs, two on a double during a three-run second inning, and Jack McDowell scattered nine hits as the Indians completed a four-game sweep at Boston.

Boston starter Tim Wakefield suffered the loss. Since starting last season 14-1, Wakefield has gone 2-10 with a 6.36 ERA.
