Harmon Commits to Fullerton, Pending Results of Entrance Test

Santa Ana Valley High forward Ike Harmon said he has committed to play basketball at Cal State Fullerton, pending the results of college entrance tests.

A 6-foot-5 senior, Harmon was the county’s best rebounder, averaging 11.2. He also averaged 22 points, fourth-best in the county. Harmon said he took the Scholastic Assessment Test Saturday.

Southern California College has hired former Ocean View girls’ basketball coach Ollie Martin as an assistant women’s coach.

Martin, who left Ocean View because of additional demands on his time at Southern California Gas Co. in Glendale, said the late practice schedule at the college and the reduced responsibilities as an assistant afforded him this opportunity.

First-year Coach Russ Davis said Martin would be valuable for several reasons, including recruiting.

“He’s well-respected in the county and there’s a huge talent pool here,” Davis said. “We’d like to get some of it to stay home.”

Orange High’s Dara Marzolo has signed a letter of intent to attend Cal State Fullerton and play softball.

Marzolo, a catcher, is batting .385 with three home runs and 10 runs batted in for Orange. Last year, she batted .352, scored 16 runs and drove in 17.

She chose Fullerton over Virginia.

Villa Park catcher-infielder Kendra Wood has signed a letter of intent to play softball at UC Santa Barbara.

Wood is batting .469 with one home run and six RBIs. She has scored eight runs. Wood batted .378 as a junior with 10 RBIs.

Christine Geske, a goalkeeper for Brea Olinda, has signed a letter of intent to attend North Carolina Asheville this fall and play soccer.
