Getting Down to Earth

What better way to celebrate Earth Day, which is Monday, than to get out and take a walk. At the 1996 Arroyo Seco Earth Walk and Festival in Pasadena on Saturday, the treks begin at 7 a.m. with a bird walk, followed an hour later by walks for plant enthusiasts, history buffs, families and, finally, for the spiritually inspired, at 11 a.m. All depart Brookside Park in the Arroyo Seco (next to the Rose Bowl), and end at the Lummis Home. Refreshments, music, learning stations and art installations are planned along the way. Return shuttle service available. The festival, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., includes the Ben Hale Dancers, children’s environmental theater and Andean music at Brookside Park, 1133 Rosemont Blvd. $10 per walker; ages 5-12, $5; toddlers, free; $25 per family; $1 per dog. Children’s entertainer Dan Crow and singer Toni Childs will perform at the Earth Day festival in Manhattan Beach on Saturday.
