Dickey Shoots 69 to Win League Golf Title

Huntington Beach’s Perry Dickey shot a three-under-par 69 in the second round at the Sunset League individual golf finals to win the event.

Dickey, who eagled the 13th hole in his second round on the Orange course at Green River, shot 76 in the first round and finished the day at one-over 145, two strokes ahead of Esperanza’s Pete Hergert and Ryan Donovan. The top five advance to the Southern Section individual final.

In Empire League golf:

Cypress 207, Katella 237--Cypress (13-7, 5-0) won its first Empire League title behind Eric Wang, who was the medalist for the 17th time in 20 matches. Wang shot par 35 at Cypress Golf Club.

In nonleague golf:

Santa Margarita 196, Villa Park 202--Nicholas Fritz shot one-under 35 for Santa Margarita (12-1) on the Orange course at Green River. Sean Redwine and Jeff Cohn shot 37 for Villa Park (14-2).

In Century League softball:

Foothill 6, Santa Ana Valley 0--Marie Gieron pitched a one-hitter and struck out 12 for top-ranked Foothill (20-2). Gieron and Jamie Clark each hit a triple for the Knights.

In the Empire League:

Kennedy 12, Century 0 (5, mercy)--Sophomore Nicole Crouse pitched her first no-hitter, walking two for Kennedy (10-7, 3-1). Michelle Cross went three for three, including a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.

In Coastal League boys’ tennis:

St. Margaret’s 9, San Diego Francis Parker 9 (St. Margaret’s wins on games, 73-70)--St. Margaret’s (7-3, 2-2) defeated Francis Parker for the first time in four years as Nick Chapman and Raphael Thurber swept in singles.

In nonleague tennis:

Woodbridge 13, Garden Grove 5--Chase Exon swept in singles, 6-0, 6-1, 6-4, for third-ranked Woodbridge (12-4). Sixth-ranked Garden Grove (13-3) was led by Andro Ignacio at No.3 singles, who picked up two sets, finishing, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0.

In Century League boys’ track and field:

El Modena 85, Villa Park 50--Scott Dicus won the 110 hurdles (15.5) and 300 hurdles (42.1) for No. 9 El Modena (6-0, 3-0).

In Century League girls’ track and field:

El Modena 95, Villa Park 43--Lindsay Kustich finished first in the 100 (13.0) and 200 (27.2) for sixth-ranked El Modena (6-0, 3-0).
